In order to live and grow, plants need four basic elements: air, water, nutrients, and sunlight.
Objective
communication
collaboration
problem solving
critical thinking
decision making
reflection.
Tasks:
Divide the class into groups with computers, show the children how to adjust the amount of water ,heat and light.
Begin with a discussion about the needs of plants ,then ask them what will happen if we the plant do not receive one of the required elements?(problem Solving)
Divide the class into groups and let them discuss their own hypothesis (communication),After that let the students test their hypothesis by experiment .Finally compare the results and draw a conclusion (decision making ,critical thinking). At the end let them to write a reflection about the topic .
Finally the students will go to the internet and find articles about plants and write a summary about it
Personalization/Differentiation
The students are challenged by put them in front of problem solving ,then let the students collaborate with each other( mixed group) as a group so in this case the struggling and the ESL students will learn from their peer one. Also create a classroom display with pictures illustrating some vocabulary words from the lesson.
Real-World Connection
let the students know about the importance of plant in our environment and how they will care about them.
Assessment:
Teacher observation; oral questioning
Discuss with the students what are the needs of plant in order to grow. Have the students explain in writing what will happen if we deprived the plant from one of the components elements.Students will also measure and record the growth of each plant by using a graph.
Ask the children to take responsibility for a plant at home, recording the amount of light, temperature and water every day, and writing up their observations in a table and documented it by pictures and make journal notebook for their results
Resources:
classroom display pictures,internet websites,computers,digital camera
Examples:
Links to teacher or student examples.
Reflection:
Reflect on the experience with specific details about the instructional outcome, pedagogy, tool effectiveness,
and student engagement. Include any student feedback about the activity.
